    Boundaries

    November 12, 2019

When I moved to Western Australia I was still driving Californa style. Even though most California freeways are posted for 65 miles per hour, if I kept it under 80 I never got a ticket.

The Aussies take their speed limits more seriously. After getting five speeding tickets I prayed for the Lord to help me obey the speed limit law. I knew that if I didn’t I’d face dire consequences.

So goes it with the law of the Lord. Jesus left us two commands, to love God and love our neighbors as our selves. Even though the Lord extends us incredible love, mercy, and grace He still places limits on our behavior.

He loves us so much and he doesn’t want us to suffer, so He allows consequences when we repeatedly violate His commands. He knows that repeated acting out in ways that are not loving toward Him and our fellow humans can result in damage to our very souls. That’s a certainty more serious than facing the loss of my driving privileges.

“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Matthew 22: 36-40

“I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. No longer will they teach their neighbor, or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest,” declares the Lord. Jeremiah 31: 33-34

The strength to live according to God's will comes from Christ.

    Love and blessings,

    Rich H.
