I'm puzzled as I board the train. I've just heard a sermon that claims no repentance is necessary for salvation. I pray to the Lord for clarification as I put my bike in its designated spot and sit down.
In just a moment a terrific smell assaults my senses. Evidently, someone on the train has not taken a shower this morning. Perhaps it has been many mornings from the smell of it.
It takes me another minute to realize what the Lord is revealing. We may be on the salvation train to glory without repentance but the accumulated filth of sin is making us reek.
When we ask forgiveness of the Lord and seek repentance (re-think our sin), Christ's blood washes us clean. We are no longer burdened by the filthy residue of sin but are once again pleasing to the Lord, as pleasing as the aroma of sweet incense.
Fellowship with our sisters and brothers and God becomes increasingly impossible if we are carrying accumulated sin in our souls. We must seek forgiveness and repentance to acknowledge the continuing grace He granted us the moment we proclaimed Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.

If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John, 1:9.
Confess your trespasses to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. James 5: 16.
