Changing Trains

Updated: Jan 20

We may struggle to obey God's commands and never succeed. Instead of trying to avoid the wrong thing maybe we should pray for Jesus to help us do the right thing.

It’s like changing trains. Jesus has blessed us with the opportunity to board the Spirit train. The other train is the train of the law. If we’re on the law train we’ll never get to the right destination no matter how much we pray for help. But if we board the Spirit train we’ll be traveling in the direction Jesus has chosen for us.

Jesus is the conductor of the Spirit train and the cost of the ticket is handing our struggles over to him. We can surrender the fight and simply ask Jesus to take us in this new direction, the direction of love that leads to eternal life. We can surrender to the power of Christ in us, our hope of glory.

Jesus restated the law with two simple commands, love God and love your neighbor as yourself. Obedience to God isn't an intellectual pursuit. It's a pursuit of the heart. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for being the power in me to do the right thing. The power of love breaks every chain.

For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature, For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do -this I keep on doing.” Romans 7: 18-19

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11: 28-30

Love and blessings,
