A friend dropped by Saturday evening. We usually go to Macca’s (Mac Donald’s) for coffee but this time we hung out in my apartment. He had lots to share about his travels and adventures in evangelism.

Toward the end of the conversation, he said, “Quite often people doing ministry really don’t listen well. They think they have a word for you so they share it without letting you tell them how you see it.”

That set me to thinking. Am I a good listener? I didn’t use to be. I used to have my two cents ready before the other person finished their sentence. But by praying to the Holy Spirit to guide me in tracking with the speaker I’ve become much better.

So many times people just need a listening ear rather than a rapidly moving mouth. It’s not so much about solutions, it’s more about patience, understanding, and affirmation. Being a good listener is good ministry.

Love and blessings,

Rich H.

My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to one's whole body. Proverbs 4: 20- 22

Listen carefully to me, and eat what is good, and let your soul delight itself in abundance. Incline your ear and come to me. Hear and your soul shall live. Isaiah 55: 2
