Character defects, we've all got em, right? In my humble opinion, my own defects don't seem so bad. Yeah, right.
The first thing that can be done about my bad behavior is to ask God for forgiveness. I also need to make amends to people I've hurt, so long as it doesn’t make matters worse. The second thing is to realize I’m powerless to heal my character defects on my own. The third thing is to lay those defects down at the foot of the cross and ask Jesus Christ to heal me.
As the saying goes, I have to let go and let God heal those defects of character. I can only do it by living one day at a time. It says in Exodus 3:14 that God’s name is “I am,” not “I was” or “I will be.” This means God is present to help me RIGHT NOW, not yesterday or tomorrow.
And here’s another amazing fact: God can correct and heal the mistakes I’ve made in my past. As it says in Joel 2: 25, God will restore the years the locust has eaten. For me, this means he can heal my hurts and hang-ups from my former life if I’m willing to repent and turn them over to him.
We have an amazing God who wants so much for us to be in right relationship with him. And he’s willing to make it happen if we give everything to him.
Happy are those whose greatest desire is to do what God requires. Matthew 5: 6
Humble yourselves before the Lord and he will lift you up. James 4: 10
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1: 9.
