How well do we love?

Sunday afternoon’s train is about half full. I glance across the aisle at a playful boy pacing around and then snuggling up with his father on the twin seats. Perth has no football game today so no mob is rushing for the stadium.

I’ve got my bike to ride the short distance to the church from the Rockingham station. We fly past the cars on the freeway. I’ll be there in half an hour.

My afternoon is spent in prayer, worship, and fellowship with my brothers and sisters at Rockingham Salvation Army church. It’s a day for service after a week of theological study.

Our two ministry leaders are just back from the states with new material and a renewed enthusiasm for our Christ-based recovery program. They remind us that we are a family of believers and that our unity is vital for the people who come to the program for healing and restoration.

When we come before the Lord on the last day we may be asked to give an account of our lives here on earth. I’ve heard that the question asked by the Lord might be, “how well did you love?” What will your answer be?

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13: 24-35

“For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” 1 Corinthians 13: 12-13

Love and blessings,
